Let’s get to know each other.
Hi, I’m Joni (she/her)—founder of Know Your Strength PLLC. I really wanted to create a space where therapy wasn’t scary or dark, but a place to get to know, and rise to, your fullest potential.
I have known since high school that I wanted to work in mental health in some capacity. (Shout out to Mr. B, my AP psychology teacher, you changed my life forever). I attended American University in Washington, DC where I studied broadcast journalism and psychology and then went on to earn my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from NC State University.
In the years since earning my degree I have lived all over the country while my husband was on active duty in the US Army. Moving frequently was challenging but afforded me opportunities to grow as a person and as a clinician, reinventing myself and finding outside the box ways to do my job and feel fulfilled—all of which finally landed me here!
Outside of my role as your therapist you can find me lying on the floor with my dog, hiking with my husband, training in the gym, teaching other women to lift weights so we can all feel more empowered, cheering on my hometown Baltimore Ravens, and trying to relax by reading a romantasy book or watching a show I’ve already seen.

In addition to my experience as a clinical mental health counselor, I am also a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach and I am happy to bring this knowledge and perspective in to our sessions together if desired.
